What’s new on the site
  • Sep 3, 2026

A new word now points at the month before. In the first days of a month there is nothing published yet. The page no longer stops at “be the first” — it links you to what people made for last month's word. See it →

Comments follow the paper you are looking at. Paging quickly through papers could leave the previous paper's discussion on screen. Each paper now keeps its own thread, however fast you move.

It was never only writing. A page can be written, drawn, photographed, or anything else. See it →

Get notified — Introducing Accounts. Create an account and choose what you want to hear about: a new word announced, a deadline coming up, comments on your papers, replies to your comments. An account only requires your email. Papers stay anonymous credited only to Human On Planet Earth. This is to encourage discussions and responses. If you do not want an account there is no change. You can still submit without an account. See it →

Find papers by hashtag. Papers carry quiet hashtags. On word pages and in the long-form index, you can now filter by them.

Clearer upload limits. If your PDF is too large, the submit page now tells you straight away — how big it is, what the limit is, and what to do — instead of quietly clearing your file. Both word papers and long-form papers cap at 4.5 MB. See it →

Newest papers first. Word pages now open with the most recent paper. A small toggle lets you read oldest-first instead.

Above is what changed for you. This site is an open source project — the full changelog records everything else too, and you can browse the code on GitHub.
